update install trouble...

When I attempt to download and install the Windows
updates, the computer successfully downloads the data,
but the installation never starts. The "download
history" reports that the installation was a failure. I
do not get any error message. The "installation progress
bar" never begins. The computer is otherwise fully
functionable. Any ideas?
