Update KB951944 Failed to install

When running update KB951944 the update failed and did not give any
discernable message. I then downloaded the security update for 2007 and ran
the fix from my harddrive. Finally I got an error message: The detection
failed, this can be due to a corrupted installation database. How do I fix
this? I am running XP SP3 and Microsoft office 2007 home edition.

Did you ever get your error fixed? If so, how did you do it? I tried Repair
but that didn't work for me. Any ideas out there?

I have had this problem for 3 weeks and I just fixed it. I downloaded the
Windows Install Clean Up from Microsoft. Turns out it was my old version of
Office 2003 and my Pro trial version that hadn't been completely uninstalled.
I deleted them with the Install Clean Up and my computer updated.

Office 2007 is not installed on my system, but I am receiving this error
during Windows Update.
