Update links

HI
I have PPT charts that have excel charts spreadsheets linked to them. When I select the update button It seems to update the whole slide including verbage that I didn't originally link that is in text boxes that hasn't been updated.

I don't understand what is happening to the slide. Can anybody help me out?
