Hello,

I need to update the Access runtime file on several PC's at a client's
facility.

Is there a way to do this directly from Microsoft for each PC, or do I have
to create another setup file?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Bruce, I will try that. I forgot to mention that the computers were
running Access 2000, I suppose it should work for 2000 as well?
I went to that site and pretended I was updating my computer, but it wanted
to update Office XP, although I do not have XP, I just have 97 and 2000.

This update (both the KB article and the referenced download) was specifically
created for XP. For machines running Access 2000 go to
http://office.microsoft.com/productupdates/ and "Check for Updates" from each of
those machines or locate the patch in the "Downloads for Office 2000" section.

Thank you Bruce,

I tried that liink, but after examining my computer I am still offered to
install SP-1 for Office XP.
Looks like a bug, I guess I should tell Microsoft?
I could always go to the list of available updates and select the ones I
think are needed, but I would
prefer to have the Web site check what is on the machines and tell me what I
need.
I am going to have to do this while the client's store is open, so I don't
want to tie up any computer
more than neccessary.

No bug. If you use "Scan for Updates", it will always limit the list to those
that are deemed necessary for the version of office on the machine from which
you are accessing the web site.

You should be able to download the full patch via the "Downloads for Office
2000" section of that page (click on "Access 2000, Updates" on the resulting
page).

Hello Bruce,

Success, I was able to update the runtime files!
I duplicated the machines in the store (I hope) by using a 'Clean' Windows
2000 Pro machine with just my runtime app on it.
I downloaded and installed the full SP3 patch, and the install program
correctly identified the Access 2000 runtime SP1, and started the update.
There was one small glitch, the installer could not find MSRECL40.dll. But
this file is only used for briefcase replication so I told it to ignore it,
and the rest of the install completed with no more problems.
However, I first tried the route "Scan for Updates". It did come up with the
correct info, but the update failed, probably due to that missing file, but
it gave no details and did not offer me the option of ignoring the problem.

I still think that is a bug, since it tells me I need SP1 for Office XP for
a machine that does not have Office XP installed.

Thanks again, I was about to give up on this.

You're welcome.

You may be right about the "XP" issue. :-(
