Update of Table of Contents includes EVERYTHING

I have a word document that has a Table of Contents that
looks fine. I have major updates to it and now when I try
to update the TOC it put everything (all text not images)
into the table of contents. HELP!!

Thanks,
Kathy

Hi Kathy

Depending on how you build your contents, this could be caused by getting a
style or a level applied to other text - does Outline view or the document
map show the same effect? If it does you may need to reapply styles
correctly.

Another possibility is that when you updated the document you pasted a large
amount of the content when your cursor was at the beginning of a heading
paragraph - 'trapping' the content into the referenced heading. In that case
the best solution is probably to insert a new TOC - check the settings in
the old one first so you know how it worked (when it worked).
