Updated - Invalid Product Key Error

Hi,

I purchased a new laptop pc with Windows XP and it comes
with Microsoft Office. The Microsoft Office (along with
other software) was preloaded and the shipping box
contains no CD's (except trial versions). A Microsoft
booklet came with it that says the Certificate of
Authenticity has been removed by the manufacturer and is
attached to the PC.

When I launch Word, Excel etc..I am prompted to enter the
Product Key. This code is on a sticker attached to my
computer. When the code is entered (case matching) it is
not recognized by the system. Has anyone else had this
problem? I've tried the "repair" function on add/remove
programs - but no luck...If I need to contact microsoft
can can someone provide specific instructions about who to
contact? Thanks for the help.

Hi, JJlawn. You should have two product keys -- one for Windows XP, and a second for Office. The Windows product key is on a label stuck to the outside of your computer. The Office product key should be on a certificate in the documentation that came with your computer.

As g-n-o says, the Windows key is stuck to your CPU. Most likely you don't
have a key for Office because it is a trial version. You will have to buy
the full product to use it beyond the trial period.
