Upgrade 97->XP Messes up Combo Box

Recently upgraded to Office XP from 97.

On some machines previously working combo boxes now fail
to lookup entered values. Instead of finding a number
typed into the control, it acts as if it is not there
(even sending to the .notinlist event). The same item can
be found by browsing the list.

On other machines with same Access option settings and
combo box properties, the combo box behavior is normal.

Any ideas appreciated,
