Upgrade from FP 2000

Jim

I am considering upgrading to FP 2003 from FP 2000. Before
doing so, I thought I would check to see if there any
issues, problems, or special proceedures I should be aware
of.
I do have an existing live website so I would like to try
and avoid any problems.

Thanks,
Jim

Normally there are no problems in the upgrade
Just make sure your FP2000 local and remote sites are in "good health" before you upgrade
- pages don't have component or html errors in them

You will need to do a Publish All (either way) the first time you publish to get the FP2003 webs in sync

Thanks for the info.
There is one problem that I am having but I don't think
this will affect the upgrade. I cannot open the live site
inside of fp2000. I am able to log in, start to load the
live site and then i get the infamous "ms fp file app has
encountered a problem and needs to close - do you want to
send report to ms?"
Everything else works perfectly. I can create, update,
publish etc. and the live site looks and works fine. The
only other info I have is from the event viewer which
references frontpg.exe, mso9.dll and fault address 0x0006b
bad. I searched technet but was unable to find anything
relatd to this error.

IMHO
I would resolve that problem before upgrading
- you may have some corrupt meta data which can cause problems

First of all have your host check your site FP SE and permissions
Post the specific error number you are getting when trying to open the site
Then try the usual repairs in the sequence below:
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and
C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Local Settings\Temp
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
3) Run a Repair on IE
(see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 )
4) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, MS Office and your Video card
(Windows Update and Office Update sites, plus your video card supplier site)
5) Open FP and Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins,
6) Open your FP Online Web/Site and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
(also try opening if from IE using File Edit w/ FP
