Upgrade from ME to XP causes mayhem

I have finally managed to upgrade to XP from ME. However, I am having a few
problems:

Norton Anti-virus wont scan
Word Hangs at the splash screen - you dont get the app showing in the task
manager.
Excel hangs with the splash screen and the application user interface showing.
When I try and install something from a website it just hangs the whole system

Anyone had a similar problem and is there a good way to fix it?

If you upgraded on top of your old ME system then, in my experience,
there is no satisfactory way of fixing it. Upgrades almost never work
properly. I would save all your volatile user data that is not easy to
re-create, wipe the HD and then do a fresh XP install.
