The install of of Office2000sp3 installs MS Photo Editor and sets it as the
default viewer for jpeg's, bitmaps, and png files. Upgrading to
Office2003sp2 removes Photo Editor thereby breaking the associations;
however, it does not reassociate the files to Picture and Fax Viewer or to
the newly installed Microsoft Office Picture manager. The user must either
open one of these file types or launch the MSOffice Picture Manager to make
the associations.
I am working on deployment of a 2000sp3-2003sp2 upgrade and am trying to
keep the associations from being broken by the install as there will be over
2500 workstations affected. We use LotusNotes as an email client, and until
the file associations are recreated by the user, Notes is unable to launch
these types of attachments.
The only way I can get it to work is to deploy a fix that merges the
appropriate reg keys to re-establish the associations, but that is not
satisfactory.
Anyone elso run across this situation?
