Upgrade Office 2007 via GPO on manual install existing ver of Offi

I'm currently able to deploy Office 2007 Standard via GPO using the
config.xml file. Unfortunately, since we didn't deploy Office 2003 or
existing other versions of Office 2007 via GPO, I don't see any documentation
on how to uninstall the existing version of Office from the machine before
the Office 2007 is deployed.

I'm thinking there is a line of syntax that can be added to the config.xml
but I don't know what it is. Also, in the GPO object, I can setup the Office
2007 gpo object to uninstall previous GPO objects, but again, the Office 2003
is not installed via GPO.

Is there anyway to do this?

Hi Bruce,

TXGuy provided links to info on GPO deployments for Office 2007 (not one of
its strong points <g> in reply to your other posting.

If both installations are 'per machine' installations the older version of
Office should generally be removed during the Office 2007 deployment.
However, if your old version had apps that are not in the Office 2007
product you're installing, those aren't 'automatic' (i.e. it's basically a
like for like replacement).

You can include in your scripting a manual run for removing the older
product. Look in the Office Resource Kit (
http://microsoft.com/office/ork ) for that. If I recall it's based on

<path>\Setup.exe /x

Before starting your GPO deployment, in addition to incorporating Office
2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) checkl the MS hot fix from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951643 to help prevent an issue that may pop
up in a GPO deployment of Office 2007. Generally it's related to the prior
version having been setup via GPO, but you might also run into this even
though you didn't use GPO for Office 2003.
