Hi all,
Excuse the newbie question. I have just bought a new computer with Windows 7
Ultimate 64 bit. It came with the trial version of MS Office 2007 which I
down loaded to take it for a spin. I have Office small biz 2000 w/t the 2003
small biz upgrade on my old XP machine. Here's my question?!?!?
In order to buy the upgrade for Office small Biz 2007, do I need to
uninstall the trial of office 2007 suite from my new machine and install
Office small biz 2000 w/t the 2003 small biz upgrade? Will office 2000 even
load on a machine with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
OR...is there a way of just entering the product codes for the upgrade?
I appreciate any input in advance!!!

Uninstall all of the Trial of Office 2007 and the Activation Wizard from your
computer and then start the install of the Small Business 2007 and when it asks for
a proof of qualifying product then just stick the Office 2000 Small Business into
your computer as proof

Technically what you want to do is a violation of the EULA of the Small
Business Edition you have. SBE 2000 was an OEM version of the software and
you then upgraded that installation to SBE 2003 which carried over the OEM
license from the SBE 2000 which is forever tied to the first computer that
it was installed onto.

Now, if you want to properly install the upgrade SBE 2007 and not worry
about technicality then uninstall the trial version and it's activation
assistant and reboot the computer. Put in the 2007 upgrade CD/DVD and start
the installation. When it says it can't find a qualifying product remove
the 2007 CD, insert the 2003 upgrade CD and let the computer read it. It
will then tell you to put the 2007 CD back in the computer. Do so to
complete the installation. Also, a new computer may come with a version of
Microsoft Works that may qualify as an upgrade qualifier. See:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/suites/FX101754511033.aspx in the right
hand column for the list of qualifying products.
