Upgrade Query

W

Willow

Hi

This is probably a ridiculous question, I know, but I am a complete
technophobe so bear with me.

I currently own Microsoft Office 2003 Home and Student edition. I want
to get Office Professional becasue I need the Access and Publisher
programmes.

Can I just buy the upgrade (probably 2007) or do I need to get the
whole suite?

Thanks
Helena

AFAIK, Home and Student does not qualify for an upgrade.

Hi Helena/Willow,

To extract from the link JoAnn provided,
you can use an Office 2007 upgrade package to move up from
Office 2003 Student & Teacher's Edition
you cannot use an Office 2007 upgrade package to move up from
Office XP(2002) Student & Teacher's Edition.

Thanks for the help guys.

One last query, I've used the link to look at the upgrade
requirements. For Publisher it says that the Qualifying Products for
Publisher 2007 are

Microsoft Publisher 2000-2002; Microsoft Office Publisher 2003;
Microsoft Publisher Deluxe 2000-2002; Microsoft Office Publisher 2003
with Digital Imaging; any 2000-2007 Microsoft Office suite; any
Microsoft Office XP suite.

I take this to mean that as long as I have either a 2000-2007 Office
suite or XP office suite, I can buy the upgrade rather than the full
price version, even if I don't currently have any version Publisher.
Is this assumption correct?

I know it sounds like I am being a bit thick but I get really nervous
when buying software and don't really want to end up spending a
fortune on the wrong product.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Willow,

If you purchase MS Office Professional 2007 as you mentioned previously you'll have MS Office Publisher 2007 :), otherwise if you're
going with a different Office 2007 suite you should still be okay to purchase and then install Office Publisher 2007 as it will
recognize another 2007 product as a qualifer as well.

At least in the U.S. Microsoft has a 45 day return policy on Office software (the policy varies by country) for some peace of mind.

I'd much rather read someone who's double checking this kind of information
than to read posts from people who buy upgrades and then whine when they
find out it doesn't work on their system.

Thank you for being careful.
