Upgrade to Office 2003 Ptofessional

M

Michael

I currently use Office XP Professional with Microsoft Frontpage for XP. I intend to upgrade this to Microsoft Office 2003 Professional and to buy separately an upgrade version (NOT FULL VERSION) of Microsoft Frontpage 2003. However, this process will take place in stages as follows:

1) I will upgrade the Frontpage first within a week - Just one user (Web Manager).

2) In about 4 weeks time, I will upgrade to Office Professional 2003, but using the Corporate Licensed Version (VLK) - the complete package.

I would like to do a clean install to avoid any conflicts with DLLs and other files. Should I just uninstall everything from the system and install from new CDs I have received or should I leave everything as it is and install it from the CDs as usual?.

Obviously, the Frontpage installation might require to see the old version or would it accept the media for Office 2003 Professional. Do I need to have handy the media for Old XP products?

Thank you.

1. When upgrading any software, check your license thoroughly as the
qualifying product (in this case Office XP with Front Page) is required to
be kept as a part of the upgrade license. So, the short answer is, always
keep your qualifying products as they are considered part of the new product
for installation purposes.

2. Uninstalling and then installing the new version is not a problem.
However, Microsoft has gotten better about installing an upgrade over
previous versions.

3. Having said that and reading that you will be installing a full, not
upgrade version, of Office, you may just want to remove the older one during
the installation process.

Follow the links to the Microsoft Knowledge Base Articles and read them. I would also recommend that you read
the migration issues document (XP-03Delta.doc) which I have also provided a link to.

As far as uninstalling or keeping Microsoft Office XP Professional with Microsoft FrontPage, this is up to
you. You should keep in mind that some things, such as the Office Shortcut Bar is NOT included in Microsoft
Office 2003 Editions. With this in mind, there is an alternative way to achieve something very similar in
Microsoft Windows. See the following links below.

I would recommend that you keep your Microsoft Office XP Professional with Microsoft FrontPage CD (or CDs).
You never know if they might be needed in the future. This would also include any component or program that is
not included in Microsoft Office 2003 Editions, such as the Office Shortcut Bar.

And you are purchasing the FULL version of Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003?

Anyway...
I don't know anything about Corporate Licensed Versions, however, I'm sure someone in this newsgroup can help
you there.

What?? No Office Shortcut Bar for Office 2003?? Q & A
http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=450

I would recommend that you keep your Microsoft Office XP Professional with Microsoft FrontPage CD (or CDs).
You never know if they might be needed in the future. This would also include any component or program that is
not included in Microsoft Office 2003 Editions, such as the Office Shortcut Bar.

And you are purchasing the FULL version of Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003?

Anyway...
I don't know anything about Corporate Licensed Versions, however, I'm sure someone in this newsgroup can help
you there.

I currently use Office XP Professional with Microsoft FrontPage for XP. I intend to upgrade this to
Microsoft Office 2003 Professional and to buy separately an upgrade version (NOT FULL VERSION) of Microsoft
FrontPage 2003. However, this process will take place in stages as follows:
1) I will upgrade the FrontPage first within a week - Just one user (Web Manager).

2) In about 4 weeks time, I will upgrade to Office Professional 2003, but using the Corporate Licensed
Version (VLK) - the complete package.
I would like to do a clean install to avoid any conflicts with DLLs and other files. Should I just
uninstall everything from the system and install from new CDs I have received or should I leave everything as
it is and install it from the CDs as usual?.
Obviously, the FrontPage installation might require to see the old version or would it accept the media for
Office 2003 Professional. Do I need to have handy the media for Old XP products?

As far as uninstalling or keeping Microsoft Office XP Professional with Microsoft FrontPage, this is up to
you. You should keep in mind that some things, such as the Office Shortcut Bar is NOT included in Microsoft
Office 2003 Editions. With this in mind, there is an alternative way to achieve something very similar in
Microsoft Windows. See the following links below.
