Upgrade Win98 XE and FP2000 to WinXP and FP2003 - Help?

Trish

I lost my PC due to a power outage (Storm). I had not planned to
upgrade to WinXP and FrontPage 2003 until the end of the year.
Since the power company volunteered the upgrades, I now have
WinXP and Microsoft Office with FrontPage 2003 installed on my
new PC. I have a website that was generated and maintained
from a web-based source on my PC that had FrontPage exten-
sions. I've been reading the Help pages in the new FP2003 pgm,
but I'm still lost as to how to 'get started'. I had a saved copy of
my PC based web on a 3 1/2 floppy. It was current but I don't
see any way to get it into my new WinXP/Microsoft Office/
FrontPage 2003.
I've been reading for almost 2 weeks while trying to replace
wiring and plumbing at my home. Is there someplace out on the
web that has some documentation as to what should be done to
migrate a PC based web from FrontPage 2000 to FrontPage
2003? If someone has done this, would they be willing to share
some information? Any help would be appreciated.

If you have a working web on-line and your ISP has the FrontPage
extensions installed, simply start FP, then do a File | Open Web and
point toward your online web
(e.g.: http://www.yourwebname.com). then, once open, File | Publish it
to a location on your new hard drive (e.g. C;/myweb).

That would be the smart way to do it, but I wasn't smart.
I saved some old info from my prior PC hard drive and put
it in a folder called Save. I put this folder on my desktop
- did not put a shortcut on my desktop - just the folder.
The properties of this folder point to Program Files. How
do I delete this folder from my desktop without deleting
my Program files and all it's subfiles? I know deleting a
shortcut from the desktop doesn't delete the actual files,
but I think deleting a folder that points to program files
will..... won't it?

W/o knowing what you "saved" in the save folder - no one can recommend an approach

You said you had a copy of your FP web on a diskette
In FP File Open Web/Site and browse to the FP web on your diskette
Then File Publish Web/Site and select a disc based web location on your PC - say C:\MyWeb

Trish -

My advice regarding your website still holds regardless of your folder.

As far as the folder goes:
1) How did you create this folder? If you selected New Folder from Windows
Explorer, I don't see how the properties could be pointing toward Program
Files. When you right-click the folder and select properties, what does it
say for "location"?
2) I would avoid naming folders with names that are the same as operating
system functions, such as "Save". It just doesn't seem like a good idea,
y'know?
