Upgraded to Office 2003 and lost ability to use fonts

I upgraded 2003 over Office 97 and now cannot format text in any Office docs
including all my 97 docs. I can only use Device Fonts 10 12 and 17. Wordpad
works OK but several other programs (ex. some pages in Firefox come up a
little weird textually). I have uninstalled and reinstalled, tried system
restore and right now am a little worried that I might have to reinstall
WinXP. Ugh.

In Windows, click on Start | Control Panel | Printers. What
printer is selected as the default printer? If it's None or
Generic/TextOnly, then change the default printer to one that is
capable of printing fonts, and you will see more choices in Word.
