Office 2000 Upgrade to Office 2003

I want to upgrade Office 2000 to Office 2003. Microsoft website says that I
need Office 2000 service pack 3 in order to qualify for an upgrade. When I
try to download service pack 3, I get an error message; "the expected version
of the product was not found on your system". I have Office 2000 service
packs 1 and 2 installed. I do not have the original Office 2000 disk. I
bought the computer second-hand from an ex-colleague, with Office 2000
already loaded.

Does this mean I have to buy the $499 version of Office 2003, instead of the
$149 upgrade? I don't feel comfortable running the trial version of Office
2003, because if it doesn't function on my computer because the absence of
Office 2000 service pack 3, I won't have the ability to dump it and reinstall
Office 2000, because I don't have the Office 2000 disk.

I thank you

Even if you are able to upgrade to 2003, should some misshap occur, you
wouldnt be able to reinstall without qualifying media.

I'm not certain, but I seem to recall that when I installed SP3
on my O2K that I needed the product discs in the process.
And yes, both SR1 & 2 would be a prerequisite for SP3.
Because I was limited by dialup speed, I ordered the SP3
disc from MS.

From any of the O2K components, WORD, EXCEL, etc,
you should see the installed level of O2K using "HELP About",
just to confirm what you believe you have.

Indeed, and that would leave me computerless for x weeks while I order the
expensive version of 2003 and wait for it to arrive. I was wondering if there
was any way to tell for certain whether I can get by with the $149 upgrade,
or whether I have to pay the $250 extra so that I can be assured of not
having any down-time. I suppose I could spend the $35 to call Microsoft, and
I would still save money if they tell me I can use the $149 version.

In Word and Excel, it says I have Office 2000 9.0.2720. I can't remember
where I saw that I had SR1a and SR2. Any ideas how to check that? By the way,
I tried to reload SR1a, and I couldn't because it kept asking me for the
installation disk.

Looks like I'm going to have to shell out for the full version of Office
2003, n'est-ce p'as?
