Upgraded to Outlook 2003 and now get extend.dat error...

Mike Ekstrom

I have a newly installed PC (2 weeks) with WinXP Pro and
little else installed. It came with Outlook 2002 and I
have used it without problems. I just purchased the
Outlook 2003 upgrade and installed (following directions)
it with no errors during the install; however, when I
openned Outlook it gave me an error immediately that it
cannot access extend.dat file. Outlook then wanted to
reboot in safe mode which I did. Still the same error.
Outlook then wanted to do a detect and repair. Which I
did. Still the same error. Due to this error happening
right as it opens, I am now out of luck with my outlook
and must use web access to get/read my mail.

Search for extend.dat on your machine -- in WinXP you'll need to search in
hidden and system folders to find it -- and rename or delete it. Outlook
will recreate it and hopefully that will solve the problem.
