Upgrading from office xp to office 2007 deleted outlook folders

Nancy

I was very surprised to see that this had happened. I've done about 3
dozen upgrades and not had this problem. I took a machine with office
xp (and windows xp sp3) on it and ran an upgrade install of office 2007.
Now the user claims there are 2 subfolders of the inbox missing. I
checked the size of the ost folder and it says 232mb. The size of the
mailbox is 143mb. So I'm thinking that the folders are there, they are
just not showing up for some reason. I have a backup of the 232mb ost
file. How do I access it in order to find those missing folders and
export them to a pst in order to get them back for the user? Or has
anyone else had this problem when doing this upgrade? Thanks.

*.ost files go hand in hand with the Exchange server. Do you have the Exchange
server installed? If not ,then stop wondering where your files are

Are you SURE you meant "ost"? An OST file is a local cache for either an
Exchange Account or an IMAP email account. Just re-connect to the
account in either case to see all the folders on the mail server...

Good morning gentlemen (Peter and Gordon) and thanks for your replies.
Yes, of course we have an exchange server, but the folders are not
there. I definately mean ost file.

Another difficuty I have here is that with the type of backup software
that was purchased and is used on the exchange server, There is no way
to replace from backup just one mailbox, It can only restore from backup
the entire mail store. So I'm trying to avoid that route. Is there
anything I can do with an ost file to see and extract it's contents?

Yes you can access it, but you will need a third-party ost to pst converter.
I think there are some free ones out there, do a google..
