Upgrading from Word 97 to Offi e 97 does not work

I

INDOAUSTRIAN

Well, the list of qualifying products given in the link you mention says
"Microsoft Word for Windows (all versions for Windows and Windows NT
Workstation)", which I believe I can rightly assume includes Word 97, though
it is not specifically mentioned. The strange thing is that it is also
mentioned that in some cases, Office 97 Upgrade may not recognize the
qualifying program, and I believe that this is my case. However, it does not
say what should one do when the qualifying product is not detected. I would
appreciate anybody giving me advice on this one.

No, Word 97 is NOT a qualifying product for Office 97. That would be a
cross-grade and MS doesn't do cross grades. Following thru on your logic,
Word 2003 would be a qualifying product for Office 97. That's false logic,
sorry. Perhaps it should read "all versions up to the time that the newer
version was released".
