Upgrading office on an XP OS

S

Susan

Okay, here is the dumb question for the day. I purchased
a laptop with XP OS and Works 7.0 in the spring. I wanted
to upgrade works to office. Not thinking to check, I did
what I had done before and just purchased the standard
office xp upgrade.

The upgrade will not work since the laptop only has works
and not a version of office already installed. My problem
is I waited (too much going on) for a month before trying
to load the upgrade. That put it past the 14-day return
policy for Office Depot. It appears that if I purchase
Office 97 or 2000 and load this on the laptop, the upgrade
would then work.

Does that make sense? Am I headed in the wrong direction?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Susan,

If you purchased MS Office XP after 14 August 2003
and it's a boxed retail package you may qualify for
the Technology Guarantee upgrade to Office 2003.
If so, it will recognize Office XP or MS Works v7
for installing:
