Upgrading OL2003 to OL2007 AFTER previous Office 2007 install/upgr

Maybe this can help someone...

I can't install Outlook 2007 after having installed Office 2007
(Ultimate/MSDN) with manually excluding the upgrade/uninstall of Outlook 2003
during my original install (as upgrade).

Several searches indicate that I need to uninstall Outlook 2003 first. I
did that. I also uninstalled the Office 2003 Web Components, and the Outlook
2003 Junk Mail filter update. But Outlook 2007 still shows "Not Available".

Details:
Windows XP SP2, previously had Office 2003 (Professional). I also had Visio
2003 and Project 2003 (Pro - did not attempt to install or upgrade Project).

Sequence of events:

1: Installed Office 2007 Ultimate from MSDN CD, I excluded Outlook 2003
from the upgrade, set Outlook 2007 as "Not Available", made a few other
custom choices, and completed the install. Option was displayed to go to the
Office web site, but when selected asked about reboot, which I chose instead.
Error message due to attempt to open web page during shutdown. System
rebooted.

2: Installed Visio 2007 (upgraded previous Visio 2003 install). Option was
displayed to go to the Office web site at end of install - which I chose.
Navigated to Office Update and Validation failed for Office 2007 and Visio
2007.

3: Activated both products, and went back to the validation page - which
succeeded. Proceeded to apply all Office Updates, which included Junk filter
updates to Outlook 2003 as well as Outlook 2007.

4: Learned that it would be OK to use Outlook 2007. Restarted Office 2007
setup (same CD & edition), chose Add or Remove Features, and attempted to
select Outlook 2007, but only had "X - Not Available".

5: Searching the web, I found some references that seemed potentially
applicable, although I never had a trial version of Office 2007 installed.
I'm not sure if I ever had a version of Expression installed, but I don't
think I did, and can't see any obvious traces of it. Anyway, these indicated
that I may need to uninstall Outlook 2003 first. So I did that, and
rebooted. Still no joy.

6: I uninstalled Office 2003 Web Components, and the Outlook 2003 Junk Mail
filter update. But Outlook 2007 still shows "Not Available".

7: I uninstalled every trace of Office 2003 (not Project 2003), as well as
the Outlook 2007 Junk filter update. Now - finally, I can install OL2007.
Joy.

Regards,
Tore.
