Upgrading One Note 2003 to 2007: Installing issues

Good news! My first step to recover the OneNote button would be to close
Outlook and run OneNote Office Diagnostics.

Thanks for your success report!
Glad to hera that you got the problem solved.
EUREKA!!! After an inestment of about 18 hours of Backups, uninstalls,
reinstalls, restores and countless boots, ON2007 is up and Outlook is
not plagued with the redundant (20-25 times each run)
"Install/gathering/configuring" messages.

Seems to have been a real nightmare. :-( :-(
THE VILLIAN was Microsoft's Live outlook Connector (forwards email
from my Live account to my Outlook).

Good to know!
I was careless enough to install some of the fashionable "Love" features
without reading in what that might be :-(
Now I have some "Connector" things in my previously clean Outlook. My
Calendar seems to be duplicated and Outlook always starts in a real
uncomfortable way. No idea on what to do :-( :-(
Once I uninstalled that, all
finally configured correctly. Of course, I lose the forward feature,
but that's OK.

Just curious: What for might one need a feature of forwarding mail from
"Love Mail" to Outlook?
Now, the only remaining problem is that I don't have a One Note
button in my Outllook bar. Any ideas there?

In which "Outlook bar" would an ON-icon be missing?
On the main Outlook toolbar I do not have an ON-icon (only in the
mail-editor and the contact editor).
FINALLY, THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH for hanging in there during these
agonizing hours of configuration!!! I almost gave up at 4 different
points, but you both gave me the kick in the slats I needed.

Thank you, Men!!!

De nada.
You are very welcome.
We just do what we can.
And a success report is just enough ;-) :)

Diagnostics???

This will not *repair* anything.

And I for one could never make any use out of that.

I would say: Running *Repair* for both ON and OL.

Rainald:
To answer your questions:
1. I like the forwarding feature in that I have only one place to look for
mail rather than two.
2. No ON icon anywhere in outlook, including mail editor and contacts.
That;s no big deal for me, but is a missing feature.

Just to keep the record clean, I did run both Diagnostics and repair. I ran
repair Office Professional twice and ran Repair ON once, without success. I
still get an 'Installing" dialogue box upon starting ON and Outlook, but it's
only one. I can live with that.

I suspect there is yet another blocking action preventing the icon to be
loaded into Outlook and ON keeps trying to install it upon each start up.
Small price to pay.

Rainald:
100% SUCCESS!!

I have just concluded another 5 hours with 3 different Microsoft Engineers
and am happy to report the third one solved my problem, at last.

It was a problem with permissions. He took remote access of my PC and
proceeded to run several commands, among which were:

• Subancil.exe
• Process Monitor
• and then the permission reset per this KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126713

All works just fine now and I thank you for your assistance. ON07 really is
worth all the trouble, as I use it to coordinate all my volunteer duties. I
hope this helps someone else.

Congratulations!!
Greta to hear that you finally managed to get things going.

it seems that you really had a tough time with the MS support. Didn't
this cost you a fortune?

I did not find the mentioned "Subancil.exe" in my Vista system. I read
the KB article but still I have no idea on what might have caused the
problem initially.

Have fun with your now working OneNote!
