I have FP2000 and Windows 98SE. Getting jealous about some of the things I
see people doing with latest FP version (2003?). Do I have to cave in and get
Windows XP? I hear both good and bad about it. Advice anyone?

If you want FP 2003, you'll have to cave in an get WinXP or Win2k.

Ok. I just ordered XP pro upgrade and FP2003 upgrade (Office 2003 upgrade
also, but not relevent in this group).
I've noticed some problems with current web pages created in earlier
versions of FP. Before I install and then find myself with problems, any
advice?

What problems have you noticed?

Mostly somthing like "I upgraded to FP03 and can't open my web created in
FPxx". I'm thinking, since I have my original software, as long as I follow
directions during upgrade, there shouldn't be a problem. Install XP Pro, then
Office 03 (comes with SP-1, then FP 03, sounds logical. My web is in pretty
good shape, thanks to all of you, learning curve goofs fixed, etc.

Just thought I'd panic first, in case I needed advice, then calm down.

Sue -

You are using a 6 year old operating system! Yes, it may be about time you
upgraded. :)

FP2003 requires Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

Thanks Craig, the stuff's in the mail as we speak. I've just never had any
trouble with 98SE and fell victim to all the urban legends about new
operating systems.

Sue -

I understand. The prospect of using new stuff --- especially new computer software
--- ESPECIALLY a new computer operating system --- can be daunting. But as long as
your hardware can handle it, you'll find the migration to XP is reasonably painless,
and it IS a much better OS.

Have fun with it!

Rob What a WONDERFUL suggestion. That upgrade checker "thingie" Is Article
316639, August 31, 2004. I've always been a pretty casual user until I
started our web page. This article gives you step-by-step, clear instructions
on what to do before you upgrade. I'm downloading the compatibility checker
as we speak. The only concern is BIOS and I've asked my computer tech to help
with that.

I would never have found it without your suggestion. Thank you SO much!

I plan to, Craig. Rob Giordano pointed me in an excellent direction, so I
think I'll be just fine.
Cheers, Sue

what windows needed for office 2003?

You need to upgrade to Windows XP. See
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ork2003/HA011403011033.aspx under System
Requirements

Also, despite what MS may say it's minimum specs are, Office can be a
resource hog. If you have a fast processor with a good amount of RAM (512
minimum but more is better) you'll get a much better experience using it.
You can put it on a slower PC but it will run slow.
