upgrading to office xp

Hi all ! I have a computer set up with Windows ME, and want to upgrade it to
XP, is it possible and if yes, can it be done from home/online?

You're mixing your metaphors - so to speak. Are you trying to upgrade
your Operating System from Windows ME to Windows XP or your Office Suite
from [something] to Office XP?

If the latter you would have to find some place to purchase Office XP
(and why?!) which you would almost certainly receive on CD/DVD and
install from that.

If the former you would need to purchase Windows XP - and you'll still
end up installing from CD/DVD I'm sure.

First, be sure you have the terminology straight. There is Windows XP which is
an operating system that would be an upgrade to Windows ME. Then there is Office
XP, which really has nothing much to do with what version of Windows you have.

If you want to upgrade the operating system, then you're asking the wrong
question in the wrong newsgroup. If you want Office, then read on...

According to http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/orkXP/HA011363301033.aspx, Office
XP will run on Windows ME. (For a realistic look at the other requirements, read
http://www.cheaperoffice.com/html/XPSystemRequirements.asp.)

There is nowhere to (legally) download Office from. Besides, you really want the
physical disk in case your hard drive crashes or needs to be reformatted.

Office XP is no longer in mainstream support, meaning that only security patches
and paid support are offered (http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=2533
and http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifepolicy). However, it's still for sale in
some places online, including Amazon.com.
