upgrading to XP

Hi, I have a brand new computer with MS Works installed. I have Office
XP Professional in the box that I received in a seminar for a prize.
When I try to install it, the wizard tells me that I don't have a valid
product for the upgrade. I can't get MS help because I don't know how
to find the product ID. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks, Connie

Hi Connie,

It sounds like you received an 'upgrade' package of MS Office XP. Upgrade packages are the complete product, but to install them
they need to find evidence of a prior version of a qualifier product for the upgrade.

For MS Office 2000 and 2003 MS Works is a qualifying product, but for MS Office XP (2002) Microsoft marketing chose not to allow it
as an upgrade qualifier.
