Upgrading

J

John.

Hello,

I'm considering upgrading to Access 2003 with Visual Studio Tools for Office
so I can legally deploy the database I make to users in my office. I
currently use Access 2K, but can't find the developer's edition anywhere so
it appears this is my best option. Should I expect to be confused for a
while, or is it a rather streamlined upgrade?

Thanks

Microsoft no longer supplies the MOD (Microsoft Office Developer) 2000.

If you want the MOD 2000, you will need to search old-ware sites or eBay.

Considering that, would you recommend upgrading to 2K3 with Visual Studio
Tools? Or is that going to give me alot of headaches that I could avoid by
purchasing the MOD 2000 from some other source? I just want to make sure
that the database I implement here at work is something they will be able to
rely on when I move on.

IIRC, Office 2003 needs at least Windows 2000 SP3 O/S. If you have work
stations that use earlier OS versions, you will have to upgrade the OS (and
hardware if required) before you can use the Microsoft Office Visual Studio
Tools 2003. Thus, in this case, it may be easier to use MOD 2000. With MOD
2000, users can even use Windows 95 even though thos OS version is nolonger
supported by Microsoft.

If OS / hardware are fine, go for 2003.
