Urgently need help with locked files!!!!

I bought a laptop which came with a trial version of Office Word 2007.
I used the trial up. At that time I installed Office Word 2003. A
work I've been saving documents as 97-2003 doc. Last week I emaile
some of those files to myself and was able to open, make changes etc
fine. Now this week I tried to open those same docs. and I get
message that they are locked. In addition, I can't open the new 97-200
docs I emailed as attachments to my self. Does anyone have any ide
what is going on? Did I inadvertently hit a button that locked all m
files? I'm not very computer savvy so it wouldn't surprise if I cause
the problem. Thanks in advance.

LOL. As usual same issue as many others

Uninstall your Office Trial version and also the Activation Assistant and then your
Office 2003 Word. Reboot. Now re-install your Office Word 2003 and you will be all
set to open all your saved Office files.

Reason for issue=Trial of Office expired and when that happens ALL of the Office
saved files gets locked be it the Trial version ones and the ones that were created
or used with the Office 2003

Wow.
Even if he takes those files to another machine - they will still be
locked?
Are they encrypted?
What if he saved the files in 2004 (doc, xls, ppt) format?

No, but the other machine will need a licensed version of Office and not a Trial
version

You need to download the Office reader for Word,Excel,PP etc and add it to the
working Office install

Does this also apply to Microsoft Works Trial Version ?
I bought a laptop which came with this trial version but I also bought and
installed MS Office 2007 Home & Student edition, now Word and PowerPoint are
telling me the files are "locked"

Yes they do apply as you did find out. Uninstall the Trial or Works and the Office
installation that is already installed and most importantly the Activation Assistant
and then re-install the Office H&E. Save all the necessary files that you might need
