US version Office XP Developer?

Marcel

Hi all,

I've been making Access and Office applications for some time and now
I'm ready to purchase MS Office XP Developer. I'm living in Holland
and always worked with a Dutch version of Office XP Pro. However, I'm
able to purchase a US-version of Office XP Developer.
Apart from the language: will I encounter any problems using my
already build (in Dutch Office-version) applications in a US-version
of Office XP Developer and will my (Dutch) customers encounter any
problems using my applications I've then build in the US-version of
Office XP with their Dutch version of Office (XP, 2000, 97)?

Thanks in advance,

Marcel

Hello Marcel,
You should be pretty safe moving to US Office XP Developer. The only
risk I can think of is if your existing VBA code refers to Office menu
commands, toolbars, etc. by their names. Then your code won't be able
to find the 'File' menu on a Dutch version of Word, for example. If
you avoid such references, your VBA code should transfer safely
between Dutch and US Office versions.

Any applications you build using the new tools available in Office
Developer should also be safe to run on Dutch systems. The tools all
support Unicode, so you can easily show UI with Dutch characters. Of
course, there may be problems running Office XP solutions on older
versions of Office (2000, 97, ?) but the langauge difference shouldn't
cause any further complications.

Hello Philo,

Thanks for your answer! I'm pretty sure now that I can work with the
US-version. However, I'm not sure about using a US-licensed product in
a not-US country (juridically spoken), but that's maybe a question for
another group.
