Stop living in the past and history you cannot change.

Well Mike, lets put it then that they support the wrong type of things.
Forget about the old and look after the new and the young.
It is the future we need to make sure is right, not the past mistakes.

David,

I would think providing scholarships to needy and worthy students,
delivering food to needy families, buying Christmas toys for families
that cannot afford any are not "the wrong type of things." Perhaps you
are not real familiar with the group, but the plurality of their members
are guys who served in the military during W.W.II.

Everybody should forget about wars and anything to do with wars.

War is an exercise of futility.

There should be zero benefits for people that went to war that others should
not receive.
All should be equal for everybody regardless of race, creed, colour or
whatever they did or did not do.

David,

How do I put this so it makes sense to you? Being able to join the DAV,
American Legion or VFW is not a "reward" of going to war, anymore than
being able to join the Knights of Columbus is a reward for being Catholic.

I don't like war, I don't even like fights. People get hurt, sometimes
they deserve it, sometimes they do not. But we were not exactly given a
chance in WWII. In another thread, several moons ago, you admitted you
would not let someone walk up to your table and slap your wife around
without taking action. When Pearl Harbor and the WTC were attacked, we
responded as any reasonable, human would (humans have some of the same
instincts as animals, including procreation and self-survival). We
fought back.

But I digress. The VFW, Legion, DAV are service organizations that give
to their communities and try to improve the fabric of society. They do
not host rallies that lead to riots, throw paint on clothes, set fires
to vehicles and trash receptacles. They are good groups.

BTW, I'm not a member of any of them.

JoAnn,

Normally, I would agree. But I think in this instance David simply
doesn't know that much about the VFW or what they do., as it is not a
worldwide group like the Kiwanis. I'm not delusional enough to think he
will ever admit he is wrong. (He did one time, based on an agreement we
had. I told him that in order to end an argument, if he would agree he
was wrong, I would agree he was right. The messages:
David - OK, I admit I was wrong.
Me - You're right!) :)

JoAnn you are so wrong.
I am always willing to be proven incorrect.
However, I don't know when that day will arrive - if ever.
I just do not like anything involved with war or those helping war lovers.
