Use of calendars

G

George Thompson

I have set up a standard project calendar with weekends as
non-working days. I have a task that will be performed
through the weekend. I have not assigned any resources to
this task yet.

How do I set this up so the schedule will reflect this
task's weekend work?

What are the different calendars' priorities? I know the
resource calendar supercedes all calendars once a resource
is assigned (logical - if the resource is unavailable,
work cannot be conducted on any task during those days).
Is the task calendar only useful for defining when a task
CANNOT occur?

any help is greatly appreciated,
george

Create another calendar which would be used for scheduling the work on the
task in question. Since work will be performed on the weekend, and I'm
assuming it can be performed on Monday through Friday as well, set all 7
days as working days on this special calendar.

Then assign this particular calendar as a Task Calendar. To do so,
double-click the task in question and select the Advanced tab in the Task
Information dialog box. Select the desired calendar from the Calendar
drop-down list and also check the "Scheduling ignores resource calendars"
option as well, and then click OK.

The priority of calendars is basically as follows:

1. The Project Calendar (Project - Project Information) determines the
initial schedule of the project before resources are assigned
2. The Resource Calendar(s) for each task assignment may override the
initial schedule for each task, as determined by the working schedule on
each resource's individual calendar
3. A Task Calendar overrides both the Project Calendar and the Resource
Calendar(s) on the task, and is usually used for setting an alternate
schedule for work to be performed on the task

Hope this helps.
