user defined fields....BCM v2

If I right click on a list view in say, Accounts, and then add a user defined
field, I can set the type (e.g. text or number), but then do nothing to add
any data or values behind it.

Is this supposed to be a user defined field and just does not work or have I
missed something as this seems redundant?

Are there users defined fields in V3?
