I use word 2003 for study units and I want to protect
them from plagerism, but when I try to set the permission
I continually get the message cannot verify user name how
do I fix this problem?

Set the Permission where, in what? Word isn't really suitable if you want to
prevent plagiarism: it just isn't up to the job. Please tell us what you are
trying to set, what version of Word and Windows and what patches have been
installed.
