Userdefined field

I have set up a userdefined field for text and put in in the inbox view, but
I am being very dim and can not work out how to put any text in the field
against any particular email.
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Make sure that in the settings for the view (click the Other Settings
button), you have "Allow in-cell editing" checked.
