{username mergeformat} Say What???

Today, when I open documents that have inserted fields, I get the peculiar
{username mailmerge}. Help has shown me how to toggle back to the text
(Shift-F9), but it won't stick. As soon as I hit 'Print' or close and reopen
the document, it's back. Help also has shown me that I can turn the inserted
field into plain text (Ctrl-Shift-F9), but that defeats the purpose of the
field. This is the first time this has happened and on more than one
document. I don't know how I turned this 'on', but can someone tell how to
turn it off. That doesn't seem to be covered in the Help files.

Thanks,

Also make sure that you don't have "Field codes" checked on the Print tab.

Eddie,

Tools>Options>View>Show. Uncheck field codes.

OK...great! and thanks again. I guess I thought 'field codes' were part of
formatting marks.

Thaanks again!
