Users and permissions in WSS

M

Manmeet Chaudhari

Hi All,
My project server is a workgroup, its not a member of domain because the
domain is NT. We dont even have AD.
Thus all my users have project authentication.
Now how do i go about managing users and permissions in Window SharePoint
Services. I am finding it very critical and cumbersome, to create users in
WSS all over again.
Any workaround for the same.
Moreover i have published a few project yet the users are not autmatically
added to corresponding project site.
the required option on manage windows sharepoint service of admin tab is
checked.

Windows Sharepoint Services does not recognise Project Server authenticated
accounts. You must use windows authentication so your users in Project will
not be added to the WSS security

You will therefore have to manually add the windows accounts seperately in
WSS.

Sorry there is no other way

If Project Server is a member of an NT domain, it works fine with Windows
Authentication.

Hi Ray,
Thanks for your reply.
I have not made my project server member of NT domain because i was not sure
if it works. Are you sure it will work fine as a member of NT and i should
proceed with the same.

Hi Mammeet,

I had a Project Server 2003/SharePoint Services 2.0 enviroment running for
almost a year with local NT User accounts without any domain on our server
till I switched to an Active Directory Domain for the PWA and WSS a few
weeks ago. I know that windows authentication works for this kind of
accounts. But I did never try to synchronize with Sharepoint.
My knowledge about the whole system is not to big and I am only working with
it for like 7,5 month now, so if there are very important things depending on
you system you should maybe wait for another opinion.
Even though I hope I could help and if you want to ask me any more questions
I will try to answer them.

Have a nice weekend!

Paul
