using a definite time frame for a task

hi, i tried using edays to make a task last 4 days regardless of how many
people i put on it. though this works it made the task run over a weekend.
what i want to do is have a task that will last 4 days no matter how many
resources are assigned but won't go over a weekend. any ideas? thanks

Hi Jake,

It sounds as though you need a 4day task that is not effort driven. Split
the screen from the Gantt chart (Window > Split), and uncheck the effort
driven check box. Click OK in the task form at the bottom.

Assign the resources and this should just increase the work on the task for
each new resource assigned.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Jake,

It also may help if you change the task to "Fixed Duration" and not
effort driven while you are adding people to the task. Edays will make
the task scheduled 24x7 until complete regardless of the standard work
calendar.

To change the task type go to Task Properties (or double-click the
task) and select the "Advanced" tab. Change the task type to "Fixed
Duration" and make sure that the Effort Driven check box is empty.

Oh, and you may want to change the duration back to normal days instead
of edays.

Best of luck with this.
