Using a graphics tablet with PowerPoint 2003

I am using a Wacom Intuos3 graphics tablet with my laptop and running
PowerPoint 2003 under Windows XP SP2. The pen for the tablet has an eraser
function that works fine in other apps but not in PPT for some reason. I
have tried adjusting the setting in the control panel applet for the tablet
with no sucess.

Does anyone here have an idea of how to get the eraser on the pen to work
properly without having to go the route of using the eraser in the pop-up
menu?
