Using Apply filter

i have a macro that uses the apply filter in a form which I have then
attached to a button
I need the button/macro to not only set the filter but apply the filter to
create the lookup
at the moment I click the button then click apply filter on the main
toolbar, thsi would be much better if it did it together

I would be very greatful for any help on this subject
