Using Barcode and Access for Surgery?

Hi
I have just bought a barcode scanner and barcode label software. I have a
surgery and I want to attach the barcode label to my patient files. I then
want to be able to synch this with a database, I currently use Access.
Therefore if I have to send a sample away for tests etc. when I get the
results back it will have the patients unique barcode label attcahed to the
results and when i scan the label it automatically brings up their details.

Is this possible? I greatly appreciate your help.

It's certainly possible. Realistically, all you're doing is replacing typing
in the patient information (or selecting it from a combo or list box) with
scanning.

I wouldn't trust Access with _ANYTHING_ in the medical field. I mean..
you've got HIPAA you've got a hundred different regulations.

And Access is just a big fat security hole waiting to happen
