Using Bullets and Numbering in Tables

C

Carol a. Bratt

I have just taken an employment test and this stumped me. Now its driving
me nuts because I want to figure out how to do this. Any help would be
appreciated. Here is what the test requested:

Create a calendar for the month of June utilizing the table feature as
follows: June 1st should fall on a Friday. Use bullets and numbering to
insert numbers int he calendar. They should be right aligned in the boxes.
I could not get the numbers to appear in the cells. Can anyone help me with
this?

Thanks!

1. Create a six-row, seven-column table. Label the top row with the days of
the week, centered.

2. Select the Friday and Saturday cells of the second row and click on the
Numbering button on the Formatting toolbar. Select the remaining four rows
and click the button again.

3. Go to Format | Bullets and Numbering. On the Outline Numbered tab, select
the pane that shows 1 Heading 1. Click Customize...

4. In the Customize Outline Numbered List dialog, click More to display the
bottom of the dialog.

5. For "Follow number with," choose "Nothing."

6. Set "Indent at" to 0" (this should already be the setting for "Aligned
at").

7. If you want you can link the numbering to some style other than Heading
1, but leaving it like that gives you nice big bold Arial numbers.

8. OK out of the Numbering dialog.

9. Select rows 2-6 and press Ctrl+R to right-align them.

10. You'll probably want to set the rows to an exact height, and if you
don't want space above the numbers, you'll need to remove this (from the
paragraphs or from the Heading 1 style).

Note, however, that this would be much easier and safer to do with SEQ
fields.
