I am creating a few templates (party templates) to submit to the Microsoft
community - the online template gallery. Well, if I am creating flashcards,
does anyone know of the rules around that - can I use microsoft clipart from
Word, since I'm submitting the template back to them for folks to use in
Word?

Also, can I use clipart that I buy from clipart.com under my own license?
So, I'd like to use a few photos in my invitation templates that I'm creating
for the templates.

Can I use those or will my templates be rejected? What's safe clipart for
template creation when you are trying to submit them TO the microsoft online
community gallery?

In advance, thank you for your replies!

I don't know the answer to this for sure, and (here's the obligatory
statement) I am not a laywer, but here's my take on it:

For the MS clipart, I'd say it's probably okay to use those.

For your purchased clipart.com clips and pix, I'd lean toward no. The
license probably states that you buy them for your own use. And if you give
the template away, then those clips are outside your own use -- they're
going to others and you've no control over what they do with them then.
(It's really easy for someone to copy the clip/pix into another presentation
or even another application or just save it to their harddrive for later
use.) But you may want to ask the clipart.com folks to be sure.

I don't think your templates would be rejected when you upload them to the
site, but I think the template page information says somewhere to make sure
you don't violate copyright laws and all that.

Excellent! THANK YOU. I had the same feeling! Yes, I can use Microsoft's own
clipart since I'm submitting back to them, but NO I can't use clipart.com's
clipart, even when I purchased it because it's going to be in a 'download'
format, which makes it distributable/copy-able...

Thanks Echo!
