Using Controls in Excel 97 and porting to Excel 98

I get the following errors when I open a workbook (with
macros) that was created in Excel 97 (on the PC) in Excel
98 (on the Mac):

1)The file has unicode characters that could not be
converted to the active codepage. Since some data has
been lost, the workbook is being marked read-only.

2)Run-time error 57121; Can't exit design mode because
Control 'C1001Squareyards' cannot be created
Note: C1001Squareyards is a checkbox

3)Run-time error 1004
Method 'Caption" of object - Application failed

4)32809 Application defined or object defined error

It would appear that the controls (checkboxes and radio
buttons) created in Excel 97 are not recognized in Excel
98. We use over 1000 radio buttons and checkboxes in our
workbook.

Does this mean I would have to recreate the controls using
those available (if any) in Excel 98? I thought that it
was easy to port Excel 97 to Excel 98 on the Mac.

It is easy to port between XL97 and XL98, but there's a few caveats.
The one that's causing a problem for you is that ActiveX is a
Windows-only technology. Both XL97 and XL98 can use checkboxes and
radio buttons from the Forms toolbar, but only XL97 can use the
ActiveX controls from the Control Toolbox.
