using electric blackboard

I am in an online program and every time I open an
attachment in MS Word (Office 2000), I am able to open the
attachment and read it, but then recieve an error
stating "Microsoft Internet Explorer must close". This
forces Explorer to restart, and I must then re-log into my
blackboard each time. I am running Internet Explorer 6.0.
Any ideas?

How are you opening the attachment? Directly from email? If so, don't.
Right-click and choose Save Attachment As. Save it to your HD, and then you
can safely open it and read it whether or not you are connected to the
Internet.
