Using Entourage X and Entourage 2004 at the same time

Question
I want to continue using my PC running Outlook 2003, also one Macintosh
running Entourage X, and another Macintosh running Entourage 2004. Can
all three versions work together using the same email account? I plan
on having only one open at a time so as not to confuse the Exchange
Server. I read in the Office 2004 Resource Kit document (page 16) that
they do not recommend using the same account with Entourage X and
Entourage 2004. I assume that changing from X to 2004 is ok but it
sounds like once you have upgraded, you can't go back? Is this true?
This makes it hard to do testing with real users. Please clarify. Do
I have to use a test account for Entourage 2004 while I am testing or
move my account to Entourage 2004 and not go back to Entourage X?

Macintosh Environment
We have OS X (10.3.4) and are currently running Office X, Quark 6.1,
Photoshop CS, Illustrator CS, Adobe Acrobat Pro 6.01, Extensis Suitcase
X1, Norton Anti-Virus 9 with a few other Macintosh applications. We
have been running under OS X since June 2004 and have not updated any
applications except Norton Anti-Virus since June 2004.

PC Environment
Since our company is primarily a PC platform running Windows XP with
SP1, my main computer is a PC running Office 2003.

Network Environment
Novell 6 with SAN file storage. The Macintosh computers connect to the
file storage via IP and print IP.

Exchange Server
We have an Exchange Server version 2000 with SP3. Our Exchange Server
has been setup with OWA, LDAP, and Free/busy.

Thanks for your help.

I don;t see why you couldn't. The data is stored on the Exchange server
adn I don;t see why it would have a specific format because it has been
accessed by one application or another. I often check my account in
Entourage 2004 and Outlook 2003 for isntance and haven't noticed
anything wrong. Entourage X should be fine too. I would avoid running X
and 2004 on the same Mac (and in the same session) though because of
potential conflicts between the Database Daemons of Office X and 2004.

You should update to 10.3.8 since theere has been a lot of improvement
in many areas of the system including network support since 10.3.4.

Thanks for your response. My hesitation is only because of the note in the
Office 2004 Resource Kit on page 16 which says "We recommend that you do not
connect to the same mailbox with both Entourage 2004 and Entourage X Exchange
Update (10.1.4). Entourage 2004 corrects numerous issues that Entourage X
Exchange Update does not." I also use Outlook 2003 and Entourage X with the
same email account with no problems. I would love for someone to clarify the
comment from the Mac Office 2004 Resource Kit. Like, what is going to happen
if I do it?

I wonder what they are refering to. If I quite remember, ENtourage used
IMAP for mail when connecting to Exchange server.
I can't guarantee that there won't be a problem, but for instance, I did
not see any differnce in content when I migrated to Entourage X to 2004.
I really wonder what the problem was.

I have no idea what that "problem" could be :-(
