Using Excel Auto Fill

I have columns in my spreadsheet that all contain information, but along with
blank rows. I want the auto fill feature to recognize date from the entire
column, not just that up to the last blank. Example:

A
B
C
D
Blank
E
F
If I start typing here with the contents of A it will not see it due to the
blank row. Can anyone tell me how to get it to recognize the entire column?

Thanks
Mike

Not sure what you are trying to do. Did you use autofill to create the column?
What are you trying to accomplish?

You're referring to the AutoComplete feature. I think you're stuck with
this behavior. From http://support.microsoft.com/kb/130047/en-us:

"The AutoComplete feature and the Pick From list use only the entries in the
active column in the current region. The "current region" is bounded by any
combination of blank rows and blank columns."

Thanks Jim,

That answers the issue. First I have to know what to call it and second if
nothing else, put a period or something I won't use in blank fields.
Excellent.
