Using Exchange. Cannot search for local contacts

I'm using Microsoft Exchange. I have contacts on my local folder.
When I send a email, I type the local contact name. Outlook is not
able to find it. I have to manually click on "TO..." and then a
window opens. I then switch from "Global Address List" to "Outlook
Address Book -> Contacts" to search for the local contact. I thought
Outlook would be smart enough to search the local contacts ? Or I
missed something ? Thanks.

You missed something. You want Outlook to search your local contacts. you make your local contacts the first list searched. Address book->Tools.
