using .fon fonts in Office products

I have successfully installed a bitmap font (a .fon file) onto my Windows XP
machine. This font is selectable and usable in non-Microsoft programs (incl.
Thunderbird email). However, none of the Office suite programs (in particular
Word and Powerpoint) list this font as selectable. They only appear to list
True Type fonts.

How can I make .fon fonts selectable?

Thanks!

These products only use scaleable fonts (FON fonts are not scaleable).
I don't think you'll be able to use them in Office.

Thanks Steve,

--- that's a real shame!

If I click on the .fon file in the \fonts subdirectory, the font viewer
opens and shows that the file contains the font for sizes 12-18-24-48-60-72.
In Thunderbird I can scale them up to a point (though not freely), and then
the default font gets substituted...

Yes and no.

If the font you want is available in the size you need to use, but you can't use it,
yes.

But you usually expect better typography from Word, PPT, Excel and other such
programs than from a web page; allowing you to use FON / bitmap fonts would pretty
much toss that out the window.

Perhaps you could find a close equivalent of your FON font in TT format though.

Have a look at sites like this:
