The Free Rotate tool will be grayed out (not available) if:
1. You don't have a picture or drawing object selected, or
2. The picture or drawing object is not formatted as "float
over text" (Word 97), or it is formatted as "inline with text"
(Word 2000, 2002, and 2003).
My free rotate button is gone from my toolbar. I went into the tools and
Commands and tried to drag it bag into the Drawing toolbar as well as the
Word Art tool bar. It won't go. It was there previously as i' ve used it many
time. You can free rotate a word art that is placed into a text box or other
box. How can I get it back to the toolbar?
How do I rotate in tiny increments? When I hover over the circular arrow
indicating my graphic is ready to be rotated, it doe not move in as fine of
detail as I require, rather almost acting as though it were snapping to grid,
which I've turned off. What is the fix or keyboard shortcut for this?
As Mary says, you can set the rotation by degree in the Format AutoShape
dialog, but you can also override the grid by pressing Alt.
