Using groups in resources

S

SoftwareTester

I entered some resources (people) grouped them, but I don't see how I
can make use of grouping them.

While specifying resources for a task I would like to add JUST the
groupname and MS Project recognize that all members of that group will
be assigned to that task (preferreable I can decide MUST or MAY work on
that task) and in the Gantt chart the name of the group should be
displayed instead of all its members.

I know while assiging resources I can click the 'assign resources'
button , filter by 'Group..' and add all members of the group in the
list appearing by selecting them. But that's on individual basis and NOT
on a group basis.

Is it possible a member is part of several groups?

Hello SoftwareTester,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project General Questions Discussion Group.

What you are describing is a feature called "Team resource".

That feature is ONLY available in Project Professional if you are connected
to a Project Server Instance, through the team builder feature, provided that
your Server Administrator has created Team resources in that instance.

You may find more information about this topic, on the following page from
Microsoft Office Project Server Online Help:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/projectserver/HA102421411033.aspx?pid=CH101477241033

I hope this helps. Please, let us know how you get along with it.

Best Regards,
